MIPS ABI TM GROUP INCORPORATES
Mountain View, CA - May 15, 1995 - The MIPS ABI Group today announced its incorporation as the MIPS ABI Group, Inc. The MIPS ABI is an Application Binary Interface for UNIX Systems, which is now on the third edition of its MIPS ABI Specification, and is supporting over 70 applications from companies including Oracle, SAS, Informix, Acucobol, Liant, Uniface, and Locus. The MIPS ABI effort has grown substantially and the group recently took action to incorporate.

"The Group's new legal status emphasizes the importance of the MIPS ABI for the participating companies. Each of the member companies has a seat in the board fo directors and thus takes responsibilty for the ongoing success of the MIPS RISC Technology in the marketplace," states Kevin Payne, applications manager for NEC Systems Laboratory, and president of MIPS ABI Group, Inc. "We will continue to manage efforts through our technical and marketing committees, and will leverage support from all our members, rather than by any central organization. The incorporation simply gives us the power to protect our intellectual property, including technical specifications and test suites." The MIPS ABI Group, Inc. continues to focus on providing a feature-rich, standardized development environment for UNIX SVR4-based systems using the MIPS RISC microprocessor architecture. The MIPS ABI group is ramping up recruiting efforts this spring by hosting bi-coastal ISV seminars and executive conferences in California, Denmark, Germany, and Tokyo.

The MIPS ABI Group, Inc. is a worldwide consortium of industry leading computer platform vendors, including Concurrent Computer Corporation, Control Data Systems Inc., Dansk Data Electronik, NEC Corporation, Pyramid Technology Corporation, Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG, Silicon Graphics Inc., SONY Microsystems Company, and Tandem Computers.

The MIPS ABI Group, Inc. represents leadership in many technologies including SMP, fault- tolerance, and visual computing. The MIPS ABI effort provides application developers with access to the third largest worldwide UNIX market through a single software port. It delivers a proven binary- compatible, feature-rich environment based on UNIX System V, Release 4(SVR4). Applications ported to the MIPS ABI reference platform run without modification on all MIPS ABI-compliant systems. Additionally, the MIPS ABI reduces overall porting, quality assurance, and marketing efforts by incorporating industry standards and common implementations.
